Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregory Kobel has signed a new contract with the club until 2028, according to Bild.
Kobel joined BVB from Stuttgart in 2021 after impressing in the Bundesliga and has been one of the best performers for Die Schwarz Gelben since joining them.
The Swiss international was a massive part of their title push last season, keeping 11 clean sheets in 27 appearances as BVB finished second, missing out on the Bundesliga on the final day.
He has already kept two shut-outs for BVB in the league this season as they bid to fight for the title again, but it could have been so different.
Chelsea and Manchester United had Kobel on their radar this summer as they sought new goalkeepers to take over the reins between their sticks.
The Blues sold Edouard Mendy to Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia and allowed Kepa Arrizabalaga to join Real Madrid on loan.
They needed new goalkeepers and had Kobel on their radar.
However, they signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton & Hove Albion for £25 million and Djordje Petrovic from New England Revolution for £11 million.
United also had Kobel on their after deciding not to renew David De Gea’s deal, leaving him to become a free agent.
They eventually signed Andre Onana from Inter Milan, who manager Erik ten Hag had experience working with from their time at Ajax.
Dortmund fans will be happy they get to keep one of their most consistent performers over the past seasons.
Kobel continues to be a fine asset for the club, helping them to another clean sheet in the Champions League against AC Milan yesterday.
He will reportedly receive a massive salary increase that reflects his standing and importance in the team.
