Brentford to demand £100m for Chelsea & Arsenal target Ivan Toney

Brentford will demand £100 million for Chelsea and Arsenal target Ivan Toney, according to Sky Sports.

The prolific striker continues to serve his eight-month ban from all football-related activities, but speculation regarding his long-term future remains rife.

Brentford are under no illusion about the challenging task they will face in January amid plans to retain the striker’s services at least until the end of the season.

The Bees have slapped an eye-watering £100m valuation on Toney in a bid to ward off interest in their striker, with Tottenham Hotspur also touted as a potential destination.

Toney is set to return to action on January 16, and it will take a monumental proposal for Brentford to sanction a mid-season transfer for their headline performer.

Bees manager Thomas Frank is a huge admirer of Toney and has previously reiterated his desire to keep the striker at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Chelsea’s need for a prolific striker is well documented, with goalscoring amongst the plethora of problems that have plunged them into the bottom half of the table.

Whether their recently implemented transfer policy will accommodate a move for the 27-year-old striker remains to be seen. But they will have to cough up Brentford’s asking price if they intensify their pursuit for Toney.

The same can be said for Arsenal, although multiple reports suggest a striker is not a priority for the Gunners, who continue to take significant strides in their quest for a maiden Premier League title since 2003.

Toney’s asking price could also put off Arsenal even if they were in the market for a centre-forward.

Brentford leans heavily on Toney’s attacking prowess, and they will require his services for the second half of the season, especially when Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa are called up to represent their nations in January’s Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

The Bees have been resilient in Toney’s absence this season, picking up 13 points from ten games, including their most recent 2-0 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
