Chelsea 2-2 Arsenal: Gunners comeback to snatch a point at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea and Arsenal settled for a share of the spoils in a pulsating London derby showdown at Stamford Bridge today.

Two goals in the space of seven minutes saw the Gunners snatch a 2-2 draw to extend their impressive unbeaten run at the start of the season.

Both sides struggled to settle into the game but came out of the nervy opening proceedings unscathed after several mishaps.

Enzo Fernandez couldn’t get his shot on target after Oleksandr Zinchenko misplaced a pass before Arsenal failed to capitalise on Levi Colwill’s miskick on the edge of his own box.

However, it was Chelsea who drew first blood on the quarter-hour mark, with Cole Palmer converting from the spot after William Saliba was penalised for handling Mykhailo Mudryk’s header.

After scoring in back-to-back Premier League games, the former Manchester City man was the most threatening attacker against an unsettled Gunners backline.

He collected Conor Gallagher’s pass and rifled an effort that whistled agonisingly wide of the post and was involved in the sequence that saw Malo Gusto send his left-footed effort over the crossbar.

Chelsea went into the half-time interval with a 1-0 win, but it only took three minutes after the restart for the Blues to double their advantage.

Mudryk’s cross-shot looped over a stranded Raya and nestled in the net for his third goal in four starts for club and country as he continues to rebuild his confidence.

Raya then saw his pass cut out by Palmer but was able to recover, and he did the same to halt Nicolas Jackson moments after the striker had come off the bench.

Mauricio Pochettino’s game plan had worked a treat, with Arsenal barely having a sight of Robert Sanchez’s goal.

The Gunners had failed to record a shot on target until a moment of madness from Sanchez in the 77th minute when Declan Rice pounced on his poor pass with a first-time finish.

Arsenal then pounced on an unsettled Chelsea backline, completing their comeback as Leandro Trossard converted from Bukayo Saka’s back-post cross.

Having executed a pin-point game plan to the letter, the draw on home soil would feel like a defeat for the reinvigorated Blues after losing their winning streak.

However, with the Blues now four games unbeaten in all competitions, confidence will remain the theme of the dressing room heading into a challenging fixture run.
