Chelsea reportedly consider defender Trevoh Chalobah surplus to requirements and could freeze him out of action, according to the Evening Standard.
The centre-back is currently dealing with a hamstring injury he suffered during the club’s pre-season preparations.
Chalobah will return to action later this month but does not expect a prominent role in the first team.
New signing Axel Disasi has taken Chalobah’s spot despite looking shaky.
The Blues tried to sell Chalobah this summer, with Bayern Munich showing concrete interest.
Bayern manager Thomas Tuchel gave Chalobah his debut at Chelsea and was keen on reuniting with the defender following Benjamin Pavard’s departure.
However, Chelsea and Bayern could not agree on a deal. The Blues wanted £50 million for the Cobham academy graduate, while the Bavarians sought a loan move.
The deal collapsed as Bayern had a transfer deadline day to forget, failing to agree a deal for Chalobah and Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha.
Premier League club Nottingham Forest submitted a £25 million bid for Chalobah, but he was not keen on joining them.
Chalobah wants a move to a club with similar standing to Chelsea and was interested in a transfer to Germany.
He will hope that Bayern return for him in January 2024 during the winter transfer window, especially if he is frozen out of action by Chelsea.
Marc Cucurella could face the same fate at the club after failing to secure a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer.
There was interest from Newcastle United and Manchester United, but nothing materialised.
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has Ian Maatsen and Ben Chilwell ahead of Cucurella in the pecking order, forcing the Spaniard out of the first-team picture.
Cucurella will be hoping for a move away in the January transfer window.
