Chelsea hold talks with Mayor of London over possible stadium move

Chelsea have held talks with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan as they continue to weigh up a stadium move.

According to The Telegraph, the Blues met with officials at City Hall after an invitation from the mayor himself.

Chelsea are reportedly exploring a site at Earl’s Court in West London, although a spokesperson for Khan denied that any formal proposals have been presented.

Former owner Roman Abramovich considered a number of potential locations before he was forced to sell the club in 2022.

But plans for a new venue continue under Todd Boehly’s ownership, as they acknowledge the capacity limitations of Stamford Bridge.

Minority shareholder Hansjorg Wyss said in May that building a new stadium at Earl’s Court would suit the club best.

But there is said to be divisions between Boehly, Behdad Eghbali and Jose E Feliciano about the best option to shape the club’s future.

Chelsea are one of the most successful clubs in the 21st century, with 23 major trophies and two Champions League titles.

But Stamford Bridge (their current home) has a capacity of just over 40,000, making it the ninth-biggest stadium in the Premier League.

With Everton’s new Hill Dickinson Stadium with over 52,000 capacity scheduled to open this summer, the Bridge will fall to 10th in the rankings.
