Chelsea in advanced talks to extend Levi Colwill’s contract amid Brighton interest

Chelsea are edging closer to sealing a new long-term contract with young centre-half Levi Colwill, per the Guardian

The negotiations have reached an advanced stage, and the Blues are confident an agreement will soon be in place, putting an end to speculation of Colwill’s departure this summer.

Currently left with two years on his Chelsea contract, the defender has attracted attention from Brighton & Hove Albion, who submitted an offer to lure him away from Stamford Bridge.

However, Chelsea rejected Brighton’s bid and expressed their strong desire to retain one of the brightest gems to have emerged through their youth system.

Brighton’s persistent interest in Colwill led to discussions about including him in a potential deal for the Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo.

Chelsea remained determined to keep Colwill at all costs and show him a clear pathway into the first team, making the negotiations at this juncture absolutely crucial.

The defender’s performances during pre-season earned praise from Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino, who has held productive talks with the youngster regarding his role.

Regular playing time with Chelsea could cement Colwill’s position at Chelsea and significantly boost his chances of being selected for England’s 2024 European Championship squad.

While some people speculated that Chelsea’s pursuit of AS Monaco’s Axel Disasi may impact Colwill’s future, it has been clarified the two matters are entirely unrelated.

The acquisition of Disasi is to replace Wesley Fofana following his unfortunate long-term knee injury.

With Disasi set to provide cover at right centre-back, Colwill will contend with Benoit Badiashile for the left centre-back position.

Trevoh Chalobah may be the one to make way, with interest from Inter Milan and West Ham United sparking the possibility of a departure.
