Chelsea’s new signing Romeo Lavia reportedly suffered an injury in training today and may have torn something in his ankle, according to Sacha Tavolieri.
The 19-year-old joined Chelsea this summer for around £48 million from Southampton but has yet to debut for the Blues.
Lavia has been working his way to full fitness back at Cobham during the international break.
However, news of his injury will put a dampener on things as he will likely be out of action for a while.
Despite the season being relatively fresh, Chelsea have had to deal with several injuries.
French defender Benoit Badiashile suffered an injury towards the end of last season and has been working his way back to fitness.
He is at the end of his rehabilitation and is expected to join the first team after the international break.
Armando Broja has been out for over six months and is also expected to return to action soon.
Wesley Fofana is ruled out for most of the current season after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.
Christopher Nkunku is out until January after having surgery on an ankle injury he suffered during Chelsea’s pre-season preparations.
Captain Reece James also suffered an injury and is trying to recover.
James had an injury-riddled 2022/23 season that saw him miss half of Chelsea’s games and will hope to avoid the same misfortune this season.
Exciting young talent Carney Chukwuemeka bagged his first goal in a Chelsea jersey against West Ham United before he had to hobble off late in the game.
With Chelsea already dealing with these many injuries, they will hope to avoid something serious with Lavia.
Chelsea paid a premium for the young Belgian midfielder and need him fit as the games come thick and fast.
