Since the new regime took over at Chelsea, the club has made it a habit of signing players on contract terms that are longer than usual.
It’s a strategic move that gives the club the upper hand during negotiations, particularly when it comes to offloading players, although it could also be a double-edged sword in such scenarios.
Nevertheless, it has worked in favour of the club so far, as it reduces the prospect of being backed into a corner by players who have one year left on their contracts.
At the moment, every senior Chelsea player has at least two years left to run on their existing contracts, except academy graduate Tyrique George, whose deal expires in the summer of 2027.
With Chelsea in a decent position in terms of contracts, we’ve switched our attention to nine players who could leave the club in the summer.
That includes players who will be returning from loan spells at the end of the season.
Tosin Adarabioyo
When Adarabioyo first joined Chelsea from Fulham on a free transfer in the summer of 2024, he was considered a shrewd acquisition by the Blues.
However, two years down the line, and he’s one of the first names on the chopping block.
Over the past 12 months, Adarabioyo has repeatedly failed to prove he has what it takes to compete at the highest level and will likely be the first to make way this summer.
The 28-year-old has made 24 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea this season, but has started in just 14 of those games.
With Chelsea recalling Mamadou Sarr from his loan spell at RC Strasbourg and the club likely to sign another centre-back this summer, Adarabioyo may be on borrowed time at Stamford Bridge.
Marc Guiu
Marc Guiu could also make way this summer, having barely kicked a ball for the Blues this season.
The Spanish striker initially joined Sunderland on a season-long loan but was recalled almost immediately, with Chelsea dealing with an injury crisis up front.
However, since his return, Guiu has only featured 15 times across all competitions. He has only started in six of those games, and most of them came in the EFL Cup.
Chelsea are unlikely to cash in on Guiu permanently this summer, but the young striker will likely leave on loan to make way for fresh recruits.
Liam Delap
Liam Delap has also struggled to impress during his time at Chelsea.
The Blues paid £30 million to snap him up from Ipswich Town after a campaign where he bagged 12 Premier League goals, but he has struggled to replicate that form in a Chelsea shirt.
The 23-year-old has scored just twice in 23 games across all competitions for Chelsea this season and may be one of those who heads out on loan in the summer.
With Emmanuel Emegha coming in from RC Strasbourg, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise to see Delap head in the other direction to secure more playing time.
Axel Disasi
Axel Disasi’s promising loan move to West Ham United is fantastic news for Chelsea as it’ll help the club finally get rid of the French defender.
Another one of Chelsea’s numerous misfits, it didn’t take long for Disasi to be left on the curb following Enzo Maresca’s arrival at Stamford Bridge.
Even a managerial change hasn’t turned his situation around, with the 28-year-old not considered a part of Liam Rosenior or Chelsea’s long-term plans.
Disasi has made five Premier League appearances this season, racking up 450 minutes of football, and each of them have come in a West Ham shirt.
If he maintains his current form, Chelsea will be fielding a lot of calls from potential suitors lining up to secure the services of the former AS Monaco defender.
Pedro Neto
With Geovany Quenda expected to join Chelsea in the summer, Pedro Neto could be heading for the exit to make way for the exciting Portuguese talent.
Neto has been an enigma since joining Chelsea. While he has popped up with the odd goal or two, the Portugal international has been frustrating to watch on several occasions.
His decision-making in the final third is only as good as his execution, which is mediocre at best. Yet he has mastered the ability to rack up goals and assists.
Considered one of Chelsea’s most potent attackers, Neto has bagged ten goals and six assists across all competitions this season. Out of his 16 goal contributions, only nine have come in 28 league games.
Benoit Badiashile
Like Disasi, Benoit Badiashile joined Chelsea from Monaco in 2023. But unlike his countryman, Badiashile arrived as a promising young centre-back.
However, he has failed to live up to expectations and will likely be shown the door in the summer if any club is willing to take him off Chelsea’s hands.
Injuries have undoubtedly played a massive role in the 24-year-old’s stunted development, but the Blues cannot afford to keep him around if they intend to challenge for major honours.
Badiashile has played just 16 times in all competitions this season. He has made 71 appearances since joining the Blues in January 2023.
Nicolas Jackson
After falling out of favour under Maresca, Nicolas Jackson was shipped off to Bayern Munich on an initial loan deal. A potential permanent transfer tied to appearances was agreed.
However, Bayern have made it clear that they have no intention of living up to their end of the bargain and will more than likely return Jackson to Chelsea in the summer.
Despite possessing an impressive technical ability, Jackson has struggled to improve on his finishing.
He has bagged seven goals and three assists in 24 games across competitions so far. Those are decent numbers considering he’s playing second fiddle to the prolific Harry Kane.
Nevertheless, Jackson will likely also be on the chopping block in the summer despite Maresca’s exit.
Tyrique George
Interestingly, George is one of only a few Chelsea players who has just one year left on his contract.
Despite showing flashes of his potential with limited playing time, George was shipped off to Everton on loan in January but has barely kicked a ball for the Toffees.
The 20-year-old forward has only played four times for Everton and will likely be one of the first names on the chopping block when he returns to Chelsea.
However, the Blues may not struggle to find interested clubs, given George’s undeniable potential.
Since coming through the academy and making his senior debut, George has scored six goals and provided a further six assists in 37 games for Chelsea.
