Chelsea plot surprise transfer for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran

Chelsea are considering a move for Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran as they aim to solve their scoring woes, according to the Telegraph.

The Blues have been profligate in front of goal this season, missing the most big chances in the Premier League. They are searching for a new centre-forward, and Duran is on their radar.

Armando Broja’s proposed sale and Nicolas Jackson’s absence as he focuses on the Africa Cup of Nations means Chelsea need to bring in a striker.

They have Duran on their shortlist as they look to bolster their forward line before the close of the transfer window.

The Villains have already rejected a loan proposal from West Ham United as they need all hands on deck between now and the end of the season.

Villa are fighting for the top four and remain alive in the FA Cup and Europa Conference League. They will need a big squad for the long run of games.

Duran joined Villa from Major League Soccer club Chicago Fire in January 2023 for around £18 million and has been behind Ollie Watkins in the pecking order.

The Colombian is keen on more opportunities for starts and could be enticed by a move to Stamford Bridge if they promise him game time.

However, despite fitting into Chelsea’s new model of signing young talents, this deal makes little sense for the Blues, considering the inexperience their immature squad is already grappling with.

The 20-year-old does not have the experience to move the needle for the Blues.

Duran’s tally of four goals in 35 appearances this season does not look encouraging for a club trying to claw their way into the upper echelons of the league standings.

He would be cup-tied for the League Cup and FA Cup, raising further concerns about the decision-making at the club.
