Chelsea will earn a significant sum if Bayern Munich sell Jamal Musiala this summer, per the Daily Mail.
The 20-year-old is being linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena, and the Blues have a 20% sell-on clause in the deal that took him to Germany. It could earn the club a huge pay day.
Musiala had joined Bayern in 2019 from Chelsea’s academy. Both clubs agreed a compensation package worth around €200,000 (£170,000).
There is no buy-back clause in the deal. However, a sell-on clause that could fetch Chelsea a healthy sum was inserted, as the club avoided the Romelu Lukaku to Everton mistake.
If Bayern sell the talented Cobham Academy product, valued at £80 million, Chelsea will earn around £16 million.
This sum could help Chelsea balance their books, which are being scrutinised following their lavish spending since the arrival of the Clearlake Capital consortium in May 2022.
Several Premier League clubs believe Chelsea cannot escape the wrath of the PL’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules. The Blues continue to say that they are not worried.
The West Londoners are also trying to sell academy graduates like Trevoh Chalobah, Conor Gallagher, and Armando Broja to generate more funds to balance the books.
The club needs to rake in more money to avoid getting sanctioned, and this Musiala deal might help.
Why not sign Musiala back?
If Musiala is up for sale, the top brass should do everything to bring him back to the club (if PSR allows).
He suffered a dip in form this season but continues to show the sort of excellent combination of poise, skill, and balance that makes him one of the top-rated talents in the sport.
With the Blues looking to sign a wideman, Musiala is a potential candidate we should consider.
He has two years left on his deal, and if we can offer him a starring role alongside Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson in attack, we might have one of the most exciting forward lines in Europe.
