Chelsea slammed for making ‘ridiculous’ summer offer to sign West Ham star Mohamed Kudus

Mohammed Kudus’ agent has revealed that an agreement was in place for the forward to join Chelsea during the summer transfer window, but the deal fell apart after the Blues made a ‘ridiculous’ proposal.

Kudus had enjoyed an outstanding campaign with Ajax last term, bagging 18 goals and seven assists in 42 appearances across all competitions.

His eye-catching performances caught the eye of several European heavyweights, attracting interest from Chelsea, Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.

However, Kudus’ agent, Jennifer Mendelewitsch, disclosed that Chelsea were leading the race until they attempted to lowball Ajax on the player’s valuation with a £17 million bid.

“We reached an agreement with Chelsea, we agreed contractually with Chelsea, but the deal did not happen,” Mendelewitsch told RMC Sport.

“He spoke with the coach [Mauricio Pochettino] but in the end it didn’t happen. It was not done because Chelsea made a ridiculous offer to Ajax.”

Mendelewitsch confirmed that the first offer from the Blues was promptly turned down by Ajax, but a counter proposal never arrived.

She claimed Chelsea had reservations about committing to Kudus and suggested that their primary focus was on finalising a deal for one of their other priority transfer targets instead.

“Chelsea did this to lots of players this summer with very low offers to clubs knowing they wouldn’t be accepted,” she added. 

“The truth is that they were completely taken by the transfer of [Moises] Caicedo, which mobilized all their energy.”

Kudus finally got his Premier League move after West Ham United parted ways with £38m to get a deal for the versatile forward over the line in the final week of the window.

The Ghana international has been eased into action by David Moyes, making five substitute appearances in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old got off the mark before the international break, snatching a late equaliser to rescue a point in the 2-2 draw against Newcastle United.
