Chelsea are considering a move to sign Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi this summer, according to the Guardian.
The Blues are considering re-signing the 23-year-old who graduated through their youth system. They sold him to the Eagles for £18 million in 2021.
Guehi has impressed at Selhurst Park since the transfer, becoming an England international.
There is a strong possibility he will be part of Gareth Southgate’s squad for the 2024 European Championship in Germany.
Chelsea have Guehi on their radar after defender Wesley Fofana had surgery to reconstruct his anterior cruciate ligament yesterday. The French international will be out for several months.
Fofana missed Chelsea’s pre-season trip to the United States and will stay behind to rehabilitate, but the club will consider signing a replacement as he will miss a chunk of next season.
The young defender also missed a large portion of last season due to injuries following his £70 million transfer from Leicester City.
Chelsea are considering Guehi to replace Fofana and have the right to match any bid from suitors. Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur have him as a target but have not made a concrete move.
However, Chelsea may decide not to move for anyone to replace Fofana. They also have Benoit Badiashile, Thiago Silva, Levi Colwill and Trevoh Chalobah in their squad.
Chalobah is attracting interest from elsewhere, while Badiashile is injured. With Silva in the veteran stage of his career, Chelsea may decide to boost their options.
In other transfer news for Chelsea today, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will leave the club and join Marseille on a free transfer.
Aubameyang leaves after a disappointing year at the club.
