Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah replaces Tino Livramento for World Cup 

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah has been included into England’s World Cup squad following injury to Tino Livramento. 

Livramento has been ruled out of the marquee competition after sustaining a calf injury during a training session on Sunday. 

The Newcastle United full-back’s availability had already been in doubt after he sat out the last five weeks of the season with a thigh injury. 

Chalobah is on his way to the United States but he will not be involved in their opening World Cup match on Wednesday. 

Reece James is currently Thomas Tuchel’s first-choice right-back, but there are also question marks regarding his fitness. 

Chalobah only has one England cap to his name after earning his debut during a 3-1 defeat to Senegal last June. 

The 26-year-old has come out of Chelsea’s academy system and has had loan spells at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, Lorient and Crystal Palace. 

Chalobah was one of the Blues’ key first-team members last season, amassing 34 Premier League appearances and scoring three goals. 

England will begin their 2026 World Cup campaign against Croatia on Wednesday at Dallas Stadium in Arlington, Texas. 

Tuchel’s men ended their tournament preparations on a positive note with an emphatic 3-0 success over Costa Rica, with Declan Rice, Anthony Gordon and Ollie Watkins all earning their names on the scoresheet.  

Croatia famously defeated England 2-1 in the 2018 World Cup semi-final in Russia. 

But considering the form and squad quality of the two sides, England appear to be favourites to win the opening match.
