Chelsea have announced the signing of promising youngster Diego Moreira from Benfica.
The 18-year-old forward joins the London club after departing the Primeira Liga as a free agent earlier this summer.
The Belgian-born attacker excelled for Benfica B. He made 25 appearances across various competitions last season, bagging three goals and four assists.
Recognised as one of Benfica’s most highly-rated young prospects, the teenager decided against extending his contract beyond the current season.
Moreiera’s decision attracted the attention of numerous top clubs as they sought to snap him up.
However, Chelsea emerged victorious in the race to secure the services of the young forward despite fierce competition from Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan.
Chelsea’s pursuit of some of the most exciting talents worldwide made Moreira an ideal addition to their ranks.
Moreira first represented Belgium at the Under-15 level but later switched his allegiance to Portugal, representing his adopted nation at various youth levels since.
His journey now takes him to Stamford Bridge. He will follow in the footsteps of another burgeoning talent that signed for Chelsea this summer – Kendry Paez.
The Ecuadorian wonderkid from Independiente del Valle has signed for Chelsea in a €20 million deal.
However, he will only be eligible to feature for the club once he turns 18 in 2025.
Chelsea have also secured the signing of Angelo Gabriel from Brazilian club Santos. The 18-year-old sensation has arrived at the club in a deal worth £10m.
Despite already boasting one of the most expensive squads in European football, Chelsea have continued to add to their talent pool.
They are meticulously constructing a young and electrifying squad poised to compete for glory, but their fans must be patient.
The players are nowhere near the level they need to be to start delivering titles and will need time to develop.
