FA Cup fifth-round draw: Manchester City and Liverpool discover opponents

The draw for the fifth round of the FA Cup has been completed and has produced some eye-catching ties. 

Cup holders Manchester City have been drawn with Luton Town, who knocked Everton out of the competition after winning 2-1 at Goodison Park. 

Pep Guardiola’s side beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 in the fourth round after a contentious late winner from Nathan Ake. 

Liverpool, who are currently leading 3-1 against Norwich City, will face Watford or Southampton if they win at Anfield today. 

Manchester United will square off with either Bristol City or Nottingham Forest if they beat League Two outfit Newport County. 

Maidstone United pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the history of the FA Cup by defeating Ipswich Town 2-1 at Portman Road on Saturday.

The National League South team’s reward will be a trip to either Sheffield Wednesday or Coventry City.

Chelsea will face Leeds United or Plymouth Argyle if they beat Aston Villa in their replay. 

Newcastle United secured a laboured 1-0 victory over Fulham in the previous round, and are now set for a fixture against the winner of the Blackburn Rovers vs Wrexham game. 

Brighton & Hove Albion will be in contention with Wolverhampton Wanderers following the Seagulls’ 5-2 success against Sheffield United.
