How has Chelsea flop Timo Werner fared for Tottenham Hotspur?

Timo Werner failed miserably at Chelsea after a high-profile move in 2020.

The forward’s two-year spell with the Blues saw him score only 23 goals in 89 senior appearances.

Despite this, Tottenham Hotspur have given him another chance to shine in the Premier League by signing him on loan for the remainder of the 2023-24 season

The Lilywhites have the option to make the move permanent for a fee of £15 million, but that depends on how he performs over the following months.

Werner is struggling to impress with Tottenham

The German footballer’s loan transfer was praised as a smart piece of business, but he hasn’t made a huge impact for Tottenham.

The forward has started Spurs’ previous four Premier League matches. He has yet to score a goal but has registered two assists.

Werner made a positive start in his first game against Manchester United last month, setting up Rodrigo Bentancur for Tottenham’s second goal.

However, the Old Trafford encounter also saw him missing two scoring chances in the first half.

The 27-year-old’s best outing came against Brentford when he got into several dangerous positions and threatened to score.

He ultimately grabbed an assist by racing down the flank and sending the ball across for Brennan Johnson to score.

However, Werner’s last two matches against Everton and Brighton & Hove Albion were less than impressive.

The German caused problems for the Toffees with his blistering pace, but the end product was missing.

The same deficiencies of the player were seen in Spurs’ latest home encounter with Brighton as he showed terrific work-rate but failed to hit the target.

Werner has shown glimpses of his quality, but he has been unconvincing. He must improve if he wants to secure a permanent contract at Tottenham.
