Inter Milan thinking between Chalobah and Demiral to boost defensive department

Inter Milan have emerged as one of the most proactive European clubs in the summer transfer market, and they have no intention of putting the brakes on their shopping spree.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter are interested in signing Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah or Atalanta’s Merih Demiral.

Marcus Thuram has joined the Nerazzurri on a Bosman deal after running down his contract at Borussia Monchengladbach to replace Edin Dzeko, who left for Fenerbahce.

Davide Frattesi is about to become part of the squad after Sassuolo director Giovanni Carnevali confirmed the 23-year-old’s move to Giuseppe Meazza as a done deal.

Up-and-coming defender Yann Aurel Bisseck is on the verge of teaming up with Simone Inzaghi’s side after the Italians agreed terms with the player and his club Aarhus.

But Inter cannot expect the 22-year-old to plug multiple holes at the back following the departures of Milan Skriniar and Danilo D’Ambrosio on a free transfer.

Therefore, they are in the market for further defensive reinforcements after strengthening other departments.

Chalobah faces an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge as new Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino sees Levi Colwill as a more suitable profile to fill a need than the 24-year-old.

If the Argentine sticks to his guns, the Blues’ homegrown star could be free to leave London in the coming months, with Inter considering a swoop.

Maybe following in the footsteps of his ex-Chelsea teammate Fikayo Tomori, who joined AC Milan in January 2021, could prove a career-defining move for Chalobah.

Atalanta misfit Demiral is also on Beppe Marotta’s shortlist after falling out of favour with La Dea head coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

The former Juventus centre-back lost his place in the starting line-up in the second half of last season and could be open to switching to Inter to revive his career.

But Inter would preferably take Demiral on loan with an option to buy, a formula that doesn’t suit Atalanta as they insist on including a mandatory buyout clause.
