Juventus to battle Inter Milan for Chelsea forward Romelu Lukaku

Juventus have joined the race for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, reports Sky Sports.

Lukaku’s return to Stamford Bridge has been nothing short of a disaster. Having been signed for just short of £100 million, the Belgian scored just eight league goals.

The forward spent last season on loan at Inter Milan. He was unable to nail down a regular starting spot, but delivered a respectable return of ten goals and six assists from 1,663 league minutes.

The Blues are likely to cash in on the 30-year-old this summer, and a return to the Nerazzurri has been touted.

He fired them to their first league title in over a decade in 2020/21, scoring 24 goals and assisting a further 11.

However, a deal is proving to be difficult, with Inter Milan lacking funds. According to Sky Sports, fellow Serie A club Juventus could hijack the move.

After years of domestic dominance, the Old Lady have struggled in recent years. They have gone without silverware in the last two years and finished outside the top four last season for the first time since 2011.

A new striker isn’t a priority for the Bianconeri at the moment. However, with main forward Dusan Vlahovic possibly on the move, that spot could open up.

As for Chelsea, they’ve already had a busy summer. Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson have arrived, while ten of last season’s first-team squad have departed.

And plenty more business is expected at Stamford Bridge. A swoop for Ecuadorian midfielder Moises Caicedo is in the works and Christian Pulisic is on the verge of a move to AC Milan.
