Newcastle target Chelsea’s Lewis Hall

Newcastle United are pondering a move for Chelsea starlet Lewis Hall.

The Magpies have identified the youngster as an alternative option to Kieran Tierney.

Newcastle are in the market for a left-back, and Tierney is their first choice.

However, Arsenal want £30 million for the Scotland international and Newcastle don’t want to go that high.

Hall has emerged as an option for the Tyneside club, and they are considering an approach to Chelsea.

The 18-year-old came through Chelsea’s youth system and debuted for the senior team last season.

Originally a midfielder, he entered the squad to deputise for left-backs Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell.

Interestingly, Hall’s debut for Chelsea came against Newcastle. He also featured in the return fixture – performing admirably both times.

Hall impressed in the new position and became a first-team player for the latter part of the season. However, he wants to return to midfield.

The Slough-born star played in midfield in Chelsea’s 5-0 win over Wrexham but failed to impress.

His competition at left-back – Ian Maatsen and Ben Chilwell – were on the scoresheet.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino has the task of clearing the logjam he has at left-back. He must decide whether to loan Hall or keep him around the first team.

He must also decide whether he wants to play him at left-back or in midfield.

Chelsea will be reluctant to loan Hall to one of their rivals but could accept if Newcastle include an obligation to buy in the deal.
