The draw for the third round of the League Cup has been carried out.
The previous round saw plenty of drama. The biggest shock of the week came at Bramall Lane, as League One outfit Lincoln City eliminated Premier League side Sheffield United after a penalty shoot-out.
The Blades weren’t the only top-flight team to drop. Tottenham Hotspur exited at the hands of Fulham, while Nottingham Forest were knocked out by Burnley.
Thirty-two teams remain, with seven more joining the competition. All clubs participating in European competition get a bye to the third round.
The most notable tie of the draw sees Newcastle United host Manchester City. The Magpies reached the final last season, while City have won the competition six times in the last ten years.
Holders Manchester United were given a tough draw. They will welcome Crystal Palace to Old Trafford.
Elsewhere, there were three other all-Premier League ties. Aston Villa face Everton, Chelsea will play Brighton & Hove Albion, and Brentford will meet Arsenal.
All ties are scheduled for the week beginning Monday, September 25.
