PSG join Chelsea in race for Montpellier starlet Elye Wahi

In-demand Montpellier starlet Elye Wahi is attracting more potential suitors across Europe amid talks of a possible summer departure.

French news outlet Foot Mercato reports that Paris Saint-Germain have joined the race for the highly sought-after 20-year-old striker.

The record Ligue 1 champions are planning an attacking overhaul, and Wahi has emerged on their radar.

The France under-21 international enjoyed a breakout campaign last term, netting 19 times in 33 Ligue 1 appearances.

Wahi has built a reputation as one of the best strikers in his age group, so it’s no wonder several clubs are lining up to land his signature.

The youngster has been linked with Tottenham Hotspur, Atletico Madrid, Eintracht Frankfurt and Chelsea, but the Blues are considered the front-runners.

They have already seen an opening offer worth a reported €28 million rejected, but they will likely return with an improved proposal.

They intend to sign him and then send him out on loan to sister club RC Strasbourg to continue his development.

However, PSG could wreck those plans, with the French heavyweights initiating contact with their Ligue 1 counterparts to enquire about the possibility of a deal.

PSG are undergoing an unprecedented squad overhaul, but the headline of their summer to date has been Kylian Mbappe’s possible departure.

The contract saga with the Frenchman has turned sour, and PSG intend to make an example out of him by banishing him from the first-team squad.

Mbappe remains determined to see out his contract at the Parc des Princes, but that has not stopped PSG from looking for possible replacements.

PSG have already signed Portuguese striker Goncalo Ramos from Benfica, but Wahi is also on the list.

His versatility has caught the eye, and PSG are exploring a potential deal amid plans to infuse a strong youth contingent into the squad.

Europa Conference League winners West Ham United are the latest club to register an interest in Wahi.

The Hammers are keen to reinforce their striking department after selling Gianluca Scamacca to Atalanta in a €32m deal.
