Reece James backs new Chelsea signings to deliver

Chelsea defender Reece James is optimistic that the signings made by the club in the January transfer window will pay off in the long run.

The Blues put together one of the most impressive windows of all time last month as they splashed out over €300 million.

This yielded in the acquisition of Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk, Malo Gusto, Benoit Badiashile, Joao Felix, David Datro Fofana, Noni Madueke and Andrey Santos.

While James admitted that he isn’t a fan of the January window, the Englishman is pleased with Chelsea’s business and has tipped his side to become of the best teams in the world.

“The transfer window is one of my biggest hates because the January period is always so busy with many games and then you have transfer noise – it’s all a bit too much,” James told Sky Sports.

“I quite enjoy playing with new players – you don’t quite know what to expect from them.

“The quicker they’re comfortable and settled, the quicker they can maximise our help. I don’t think there’s a trophy we [Chelsea] can’t win.

“I think with the team we’re building, with all the young players, we’re going to be one of the best teams in the world.”

Despite Chelsea’s spending spree, they are ninth in the Premier League table and have only won one of their eight matches across all competitions since the turn of the year.

However, there is no pressure yet on Graham Potter as the new Chelsea owners remain confident that the English manager is the right man for the job.

Off the back of three draws on the bounce, Chelsea will be looking to return to winning ways in Wednesday’s Champions League last-16 first leg against Borussia Dortmund.
