Trevoh Chalobah facing uncertainty at Chelsea following Colwill’s arrival

Trevoh Chalobah faces an uncertain future at Chelsea this summer, according to Standard Sport.

The centre-back wants to stay at his boyhood club but may not find space within the squad with Levi Colwill returning from his Brighton & Hove Albion loan.

New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino regards Colwill highly and plans to fast-track him into the first team which could force Chalobah out.

Chalobah returned from loan spells with Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town and Lorient before establishing himself with the Blues. 

The 24-year-old made an excellent first impression under then-coach Thomas Tuchel in the UEFA Super Cup. The German gave him his Premier League debut against Crystal Palace. 

Chalobah helped the Blues keep a clean sheet in the 3-0 win and made his mark with a terrific goal. The Sierra-Leone-born centre-back has been with Chelsea for the past two seasons and wants to continue.

However, Pochettino loves to work with a small group of players. The Argentine wants only four central defenders, especially as they will not be in Europe this season. 

Serie A club Inter Milan showed interest in signing the England youth international to replace Milan Skriniar. They could return for him as they continue talks with Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku.

Chelsea have cleared out several players from their bloated squad. Mason Mount is the latest to leave Stamford Bridge, joining Manchester United this morning.

The Blues have also sold Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, Abdul Baba Rahman, Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz.

Dujon Sterling, N’Golo Kante and Tiemoue Bakayoko have been released, while Cesar Azpilicueta will follow them out of the club.

Chelsea also want to sell Callum Hudson-Odoi, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Ethan Ampadu, Christian Pulisic, Malang Sarr and Lukaku.

Chalobah could join that list if he cannot secure a place in the team.
